We have a lot of published authors come speak to the Writer's Guild in our town and the question I ask all of them is:

"Is there ever an appropriate time for a writer to go fallow?"

I dunno why I'm so interested in the answer to this particular question. Maybe I'm gathering notes for a thesis paper or a dissertation. By personal observation I noticed that a lot of people take the summer off from writing. I don't understand this.

I can certainly understand why writers take the summer off. It's distracting. In the winter, I WANT to say in my room and work. In the summer, there are too many places to go that just aren't accessible when you've got three feet of snow on the ground. Besides, when it's hot, your fingers get slick on the keyboard.
