Grief can hit you when you least expect it. Yesterday, I opened the first can of tuna we've had since we lost Fred. Fred LOVED tuna water. He knew that if you cut up onions, that tuna water MIGHT happen. So if he smelled onions, he'd be dancing around my feet in anticipation. It would break my heart when I was cutting them for some other purpose.
So yesterday, I cut onions. No boy. Yesterday I opened a can of tun and drained the water down the sink. Man, that was hard.
It's been almost three months since I lost my tiny son and it hasn't gotten much easier. We will have new cats sometime this summer, but they won't be Fred or Chester and that's really hard to wrap my head around.
I'm so sorry for your loss! Pets are such an important part of our lives. I just had to put down my dear little min pin. He was my shadow, my best friend, my furbaby. I miss him so much that I still cry for him. You are right - a new cat won't be the same but they will give you the opportunity to love another pet and for a pet to love you. And Fred And Chester will forever be part of you.

So sorry for your loss. I am very familiar with the pain of losing a pet. It is different in some way I cannot explain.
